Becoming Catholic (OCIA)

"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest." - Mt 11:28

We welcome the opportunity to share our Catholic faith and traditions with adults who are interested in Catholicism. By participating in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), individuals have an opportunity to discover and explore what it means to be "Catholic" in a setting which emphasizes spiritual growth. OCIA is open to:

• Individuals who are not baptized and desire to explore Catholic beliefs and practices,
• Those who have been baptized in another Christian denomination and who now wish to explore membership in the Catholic Church,
• Baptized Catholics who have not received the Sacraments of Confirmation or Holy Communion as they seek to respond more deeply to God's invitation to full membership.

The process can begin at any time. The formal program begins in the Fall at Saint John's.  This program, along with some additional formation and ceremonies, can lead to full membership in the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil, when the Sacraments of Initiation - Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation - are celebrated.
