With ongoing hostilities in Ukraine and immeasurable suffering as a result, Ukraine’s Latin Rite Catholic bishops sent a letter to Pope Francis on March 2 stating, “we humbly ask Your Holiness to publicly perform the act of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary of Ukraine and Russia, as requested by the Blessed Virgin in Fatima.” The Holy Father has responded to their request and is set to consecrate “the Church and all humanity, especially Russia and Ukraine” this Friday, March 25, the Solemnity of the Annunciation, at St. Peter’s Basilica. A papal delegate will simultaneously be praying the prayer of consecration at the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal.
Pope Francis has invited the bishops of the whole world to join him in making this consecration. Archbishop Hebda and Auxiliary Bishop Williams will be doing so with a special Holy Hour and Consecration to be held this Friday at 11 AM at the Cathedral. The Archbishop has invited “all priests, deacons, consecrated women and men and all people of good will to join him.”
Here at Saint John’s, Fr. Tom will be leading us from 11 AM – 12 PM in a Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration on March 25 during which he will pray the prayer of consecration. All parishioners, students, families and staff of Saint John’s parish and school are invited to attend this sacred time of prayer for peace and consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
