Dear 1st Grade Parents,
For Catholics, second grade marks the beginning of a wonderful year. Catholic second graders receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) for the first time in their parish, and experience the tender, loving mercy of God the Father in a profound and powerful way. And typically in the spring, they will then have the wonderful privilege of receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ for the first time at their parish’s First Holy Communion Mass! Throughout the year, Catholic parents accompany their children through a process of preparation for these sacraments, and by their example and guidance they will help them to better understand the sacraments they will be receiving. At Catholic schools like Saint John’s School, the school helps 2nd grade students gain a deeper understanding of these sacraments through the religion curriculum.
As we head into second grade here at Saint John’s, we invite parents of all upcoming 2nd graders to keep this in mind for next year. If you are parishioners at Saint John’s, please visit our website at sjolc.org/communion and follow the link to the registration page. Sjolc.org/communion is the palce to check for all the information you will need, and don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you may have. I plan on using the website much more than in the past to communicate to our parents, so expect more and more information to be put on our website this summer and into the early fall.
If you are parishioners at another parish, please contact your parish for information about First Reconciliation and First Communion. Finally, for any non-Catholics, we want you to know we value all our students at Saint John’s, both non-Catholic and Catholic, and we hope that our religious instruction at Saint John’s School deepens and broadens the religious understanding of all our students. If you are potentially interested in becoming Catholic, don’t hesitate to contact me and consider joining our RCIA program this fall (sjolc.org/rcia).
Look for more information from me in the coming months in your email!
God Bless,
